Installation at St. Gertrud Church, Cologne [Germany]
06. September. 2025 - 21. September. 2025
Inspired by a verse from the mystical poet Angelus Silesius, Carolina Serrano fills the central nave of St. Gertrud Church with 1200 identical concave elements – empty shells that refer to the idea of empty space. But this space is not merely empty: it is full of possibilities, a projection space for inner worlds, memories and silent presence. Thus, the seemingly uninhabited becomes inhabited space – a place that is larger than the object itself and invites us to lose ourselves inside ourselves
Solo exhibition at Brühler Kunstverein, Brühl [Germany]
20. June. 2025 - 13. July. 2025
Through her investigation of concepts such as good and evil, matter and spirit, tenderness and violence, freedom and confinement, and her use of wax as the predominant material in her work, the artist creates her own language that reflects her constant attempt to understand what it means to be human. In this exhibition, Serrano continues to explore these ideas by placing sculptures with contrasting attributes (masculine/feminine, interior/exterior, full/empty, horizontal/vertical, lying down/suspended) next to each other. Thus, through their proximity, these opposites are either cancelled out or added together, resulting once again in a return to Unity and Wholeness.
Solo exhibition at Matjö - Raum für Kunst, Cologne [Germany]
31. October.2024 - 28. November.2024
In the exhibition Inside of, Carolina Serrano shows her sculptures through elements that limit the gallery space, creating divisions between the sculptures and the space, and between the sculptures and the observer. The artist explores concepts linked to human duality and the antagonisms of existence, through the physical materialization of boundaries and wax objects that reflect the ideas of good and evil, tenderness and violence, freedom and enclosure.
